About this event

The Ladysmith Festival of Lights is one of Vancouver Island's most spectacular holiday traditions, transforming the historic downtown of Ladysmith into a glittering display of thousands of lights each winter. The festival officially begins with the Light Up celebration and parade, when the town's heritage First Avenue is illuminated all at once before cheering crowds, accompanied by fireworks, entertainment, food and a visit from Santa. Presented by the volunteer-run Ladysmith Festival of Lights Society, the lights then remain on display through the holiday season, drawing visitors from across the region who come to stroll the decorated streets and take in the small-town Christmas atmosphere. The free Light Up Night is a major community gathering and a genuine point of local pride, regularly recognized as one of the best light festivals in the province. The 2026 Light Up parade and celebration take place November 26, 2026 in downtown Ladysmith, with the displays continuing into the new year. Dress warmly and arrive early, as the streets fill quickly for the countdown and parade. It is a heartwarming, family-friendly way to launch the holiday season on the Island. Parade timing, road closures and event details are posted on the Ladysmith Festival of Lights website.
